Puerto Vallarta Shopping
P
uerto Vallarta gives shoppers the heavenly experience they look for when traveling. No holiday getaway to Puerto Vallarta is complete without a leisurely stroll through the city’s shopping hotspots.
Almost everything Mexico is available in the city: blown glass, sarapes, pottery, silver, sandals, colonial-style furniture, clothing, masks, and many other arts and crafts. Puerto Vallarta’s being an art epicenter distinguishes it from many other beach resort towns in the country.
Puerto Vallarta will give you great opportunities to buy pieces made by some of the popular contemporary sculptors and painters in Mexico. If you have a tight budget with a very good and sharp eye, head to the Pueblito del Sol Cultural Center to check out arts and crafts made by some of the Mexico’s up-and-coming artists. There are so many great buys out there that you will find it really difficult to decide what to get. So it will help to list your shopping priorities first before hitting the market.
The major flea market in the city is located near the Rio Cuale. Along the Malecon strip, there are designer shops and boutiques specializing in casual wear. American shops are also scattered throughout the Malecon, a good combination of the traditional and the modern. These modern shops are strategically placed side-by-side with traditional Mexican shops and galleries.
Morelos and Corona are Puerto Vallarta’s antique store and art gallery district, a perfect place to hunt ancient artifacts. For example, you might find here a rare pre-Columbian artifact or an old iron hitching ring for a horse.
Great shops dot the bustling city of Puerto Vallarta. Some stores and boutiques face the lively beaches, while some shops are housed in major hotels. Many others are located on the downtown shopping district along Juárez and Morelos Streets. Downtown is your best bet for jewelry, art, handicrafts, clothes, gifts, and souvenirs.
Most shops in the city open around 10 am and close around 8 pm, while others are closed from 2 pm to 4 pm.
