Playa del Carmen people love to eat. This is no surprising given the culinary reputation of the place. In fact the dining scene in the city is so busy you will not have a difficult time finding restaurants that will satisfy your discerning palate and hungry stomach. La Cueva del Chango

La Cueva del Chango serves modern Mexican gastronomy in a creative jungle garden setting. This place is a revitalizing change from the mad rush of the restaurants on 5th Avenue. You must try the outrageously delicious Chaya Crepé or the Grenola/Yogurt/Fruit Crepé. Location: Calle 38.

El Asador de Manolo

El Asador de Manolo is an Argentine-owned restaurant that serves the best steaks in the city. You can have a tenderloin-steak for only 170 pesos, a good value for money, especially compared to many higher-end restaurants located at 5th avenue. The atmosphere is cozy and relaxed and the crew is very friendly. Location: Between 24 and 26 Streets on 10th Avenue.

Ah Cacao Chocolate Cafe

Ah Cacao Chocolate Café  sells chocolate in all forms, which include pure cacao beans. This place is famous for their brownies and probably serves the finest espresso and lattes in the city. Location: 5th Ave. at Constituyentes.

Ileana’s Il Pescadore

This Italian restaurant is a must-visit dining place in Playa del Carmen. The calamari is surprisingly great and the tiramisu is insanely unique and delicious. Ileana’s Il Pescadore  also boasts of superb home-made pasta. The owner is charming and entertaining. Location: north end of Playa.

HC Monterrey

The arrachera nacional is one of HC Monterrey’s bestsellers. It is so tender that it almost melts in the mouth. The meat is simply served with half of an avocado and a foil wrapped potato. This restaurant is perfect for those who want something different, but truly mouth-watering. Make sure to get to the restaurant early as it is a very popular dining place. Location: Calle 1 Sur between 15th and 20th Avenidas.
