Playa del Carmen Climate

playa-del-carmen-beachesWhen to go to Playa del Carmen will depend largely on its climate and weather, although they city is a very good destination all year round. This wonderful Mexican city has a welcoming subtropical climate. Weather ranges from warm to hot for most times of the year. It has an annual average temperature of 80ºF and has high humidity. In general, Playa del Carmen waters are warm enough for a splash, but pay attention to weather warnings for your safety, especially during the storm season.

November, December, and January are the coolest days of the year. During this period, day temperatures are warm and comfortable, but the air significantly cools off at night. Also expect some rainy days during these months, although the rains are not overwhelming or continuous. This period attracts flocks of tourists, and as the law of supply and demand goes, prices go up exponentially, especially during the Christmas season.

The weather in the city is at its most friendly from the month of February through the month of May. The sea is perfectly calm and there is little rain – perfect for swimming and getting a nice tan. Flowers blossom and tourists arrive in groups. If you have a very tight budget or get irritated by noisy tourist crowd, then avoid Easter weekend and spring break. Playa del Carmen becomes extremely populated and pricey during the high tourist season.

As in many other cities with subtropical climate, days and nights can be extremely hot from the month of June to the month of August. Wear a protective hat and apply generous amount of sunblock to keep your eyes and skin safe from the harmful rays of the sun.

There may be occasional storms during the June-August period, but the afternoon thunderstorms normally do not last. Spend your Playa del Carmen holiday getaway around this period if you are a beach-goer. The sea is mostly calm during this time.
