The Great Mayan Reef

The Great Mayan Reef has the second largest walls of coral reefs in the world. The reefs stretch from Catoche Cape, approximately100 meters from the seashore of Playa del Carmen, to as far as Guatemala and Belize. This underwater wonder houses diverse flora and fauna and also work as a barrier against the harsh surf. The reefs soften it, forming calm natural pools. This area is ideal for snorkeling, scuba diving, and other aquatic sports.

The sunny beaches should not be missed out. When visiting Playa del Carmen, make sure to spend some time on the beaches and enjoy the white, fine sand and plunge into the refreshing crystal-like waters.

Enormous walls of reefs border the beautiful beaches are bordered, calming the strong currents and softening the waves. Popular beaches include Coco and Chunzubul. The dormer is ideal for swimming due to its calm waters, while the latter is popular among snorkelers because of its deep beauty. The Alejari, El Faro, and Shangri-la beaches, on the other hand, showcase a wonderful surrounding scenery.

Water parks

Xel-Ha is a snorkeler’s paradise, offering an amazing range of fish and flora. This ecological water park allows visitors to swim with dolphins, Prepare some huge amount of money, though, as enjoying what this park has to offer can be quite pricey. Xcaret is also home to diverse wildlife, from butterflies to jaguars to crocodiles. This water park also offers different shows daily.

The bustling Playacar Complex

The Playacar Complex is an important tourist center in the Mayan Riviera. It has many exclusive and stylish hotels, commercial zones, a golf course, and expansive residential areas. Playacar Complex’s architectural feature is inspired by traditional designs, with impressive trunk beams and palapas – sunshades made of palm leaf and wood. Builders followed eco-tourist concepts aimed at preserving the surrounding’s forest.

Mayan ruins

Chichen Itza houses the largest concentration of Mayan ruins in the Yucatan peninsula. In this former Mayan capital, you can climb the main temple of El Castillo, which is well-known because of the autumnal and vernal equinoxes. The sunlight bathing the western part of the pyramid’s main stairway is a sight to behold. It gives the illusion of a serpent’s body that moves lithely down the structure until it joins with the serpent head stone carving at the bottom.

Tulum, while not as big as Chichen Itza, remains an impressive Mayan site. In fact, it is the smallest archeological site in the region but also the most scenic one. Only few visitors know about Coba, but it is an imposing Mayan site as well. Its 140-foot temple (the tallest in the northern Yucatan) is its major attraction. You can climb temple steps and have an awesome view of the glittering lakes and lush jungle.
