The State of Oaxaca has a population of 3,228,895 people of which 343,000 have some sort of handicap and of those, 92,000 are handicapped children. El CRIT takes care of those in the states of Oaxaca and Chiapas. Through the help of the State Government and Alfredo Harp Helu, former owner of Banamex and owner of the Oaxacan baseball team, the CRIT offers rehabilitation for all these people in need.
The center is very modern and well designed, and the activities for both the children and their families are well organized. The center has all kinds of rehabilitation areas, including pools, play rooms and machines, and the parents are counseled at least once each week to learn how to better help their children. It is not necessary that volunteers have experience in special education or rehabilitation hough it would certainly be nice to receive volunteers with experience whenever possible. Volunteers will bus to the CRIT which is about 30 minutes. Holidays 2010: They close the institution from December 17th to January 6th and the week before and the week after Easter.
