Día de la Candelaria in Solexico Oaxaca

On February 2nd of each year those who got a toy baby in their piece of rosca on January 6th must bring tamales for everyone, so all of our students will be able to try traditional Oaxacan tamales and atole (a rice based warm drink) here at Solexico Oaxaca that day.  Catholics throughout Oaxaca also take the baby Jesus out of their Nativity scenes on February 2nd and take them to mass to be blessed.  Students who wish to experience the tradition can attend the evening mass at 7pm.  In addition, Solexico Oaxaca will offer a special cooking class on Wednesday, February 3rd, to learn to make tamales and atole and a special lecture to learn more about the traditions at this time.
