Divertigranja is a farm/petting zoo for children that puts a special emphasis on helping children with handicaps and teaching others to be aware and sensitive of people with handicaps. They teach children and adults alike about caring for animals, about the different types of plants in and around Oaxaca and about conservation and ecology, and they make learning fun by letting children see, touch and experience a wide variety of plants and animals.
The farm is located 1 kilometer outside Santiaguito, Etla, just 10 kilometers (6 miles) from Central Oaxaca. They will pick up volunteers on the first day at Solexico and show them how to get to Divertigranja which will typically take about 30 minutes by bus/collective taxi..
Volunteers can help with the animals, with building, daily chores, tours, classes, etc. It is an active work that is usually outdoors, and they need many volunteers and lots of helping hands. The Spanish level is not quite as important as with other projects as the work is a bit more physical, and the workers are wonderfully nice and welcoming and so appreciate of the help volunteer provide.
