Casa de la Cultura Oaxaqueña

The Oaxacan State Government together with the Oaxacan Cultural Institute created the Oaxacan Casa de la Cultura in order to preserve the traditions, arts and crafts and culture of the city and state of Oaxaca and give both children and adults the means to learn more about and actively partake in the arts and culture.

The Oaxacan Casa de la Cultura was founded on July 3, 1971 under the direction of Ernesto Mirando and has since served as a place for Oaxacans and visitors alike to participate in a number of workshops designed to develop and strengthen their artistic and creative sides.

The Oaxacan Casa de la Cultura offers many workshops which teach elementary art education to groups of both children and adults with the purpose of introducing them to the world of the arts. The classes are meant to spark an interest in the arts, especially in the youth of Oaxaca, so they become more sensitive beings and are able to appreciate the many varied and beautiful arts and crafts that the city and state have to offer, not to mention offer a healthy, safe recreational activity in the children’s free time. If the Casa de la Cultura notices an especially gifted student, the organization also tries to work with the parents, so they recognize and encourage the child’s interest and growth in the field.

They offer more workshops during the summer months, and would especially benefit from volunteers who could offer or assist in teaching art, music, crafts, etc.
